What are we to do when no commercially available sandal will suffice? We make custom make one, of course. But if we expect the patient to wear it, it needs to look as normal as possible. Join us for this live demonstration is fabricating a custom Birkenstock-type sandal for complex foot deformities and special foot needs.
This course is worth 1.75 scientific credits. If you attended this session at the 2025 National Assembly, please note you will not receive credit again.

Jason Wilson, C.PED, is a Board-Certified Pedorthist with over 19 years of experience specializing in the treatment of foot and ankle conditions through RX-custom foot orthotics, therapeutic footwear, and shoe modifications.
He began his professional path after completing precertification courses at the Dr. Schollâs School of Podiatric Medicine at Rosalind Franklin University, earning his certification in 2006. Jason later co-founded the Wilson Janisse Group, where he helped develop and patent the Hindfoot Restraint Braceânow known as the Arizona Mezzo Brace. He is also the founder of jburkehandmade, where he designs, modifies, and handcrafts custom foot orthotics, sandals, and shoes.
Jason blends technical expertise with artistic craftsmanship to create solutions that are not only medically effective but also aesthetically considered. Whether he's addressing complex biomechanical issues or designing custom footwear from scratch, he approaches each challenge with both a maker's eye and a clinician's care.
Over the years, Jason has worked with a diverse range of patientsâfrom children to the elderlyâand has supported athletes at the collegiate (University of Texas, Texas State, Texas Tech) and professional levels, including the PGA, NBA, WNBA, MLB, NFL, MLS and Olympians.
When he's not in the workshop, Jason can be found working on his property, hanging out with his wife, or playing golf with his son.
Dennis Janisse, CPed

Dennis Janisse is President and CEO of National Pedorthic Services, Inc., a network of full-service Pedorthic facilities. In addition to his duties at NPS, Mr. Janisse is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the Medical College of Wisconsin. Dennis is presently on the Board of Directors of American Board for Certification in orthotics, prosthetics, and Pedorthics and a consultant for Dr. Comfort, subsidiary of DJO Global. He teaches pedorthics courses at Northwestern University Medical School and the Medical College of Wisconsin. He is past President of the Pedorthic Footwear Association and an honorary member of the American Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Society. He has written extensively on all aspects of Pedorthics, with over 50 publications to his credit and has lectured throughout the United States and the world.
